What is Newborn Photography?
Newborn photography is a take on portrait photography, only the subjects are typically less than two weeks old.
As a newborn photographer I will hold, comfort, soothe, pose, wrap, and often even feed and clean up during the session. Parents are encouraged to watch on and if required assist as necessary.
Typically, I schedule all newborn sessions between five and ten days after birth. Although I will schedule newborns at any age, however, it is best to book your session during your 3rd trimester of pregnancy with your due date and then this can be finalised when the baby arrives.
Your newborn session will take place in the comfort of your own home.
I will require area, usually a living room floor space, to allow me to create a newborn specific studio. This is your time to relax. As a parent, I understand that you will be tired and getting used to your new routine, but the shoot will be peaceful and calm.
The studio is a safe, warm and comfortable enough for your newborn baby to curl up and sleep while I gently pose them to capture the most beautiful images.
The session will last around two hours, allowing time for feeding and changing your baby. During that time, I will attempt a variety of images, this will depend on how well the newborn sleeps during the session and please bear in mind not all newborns will carry out the same poses.
I will consult with you before the session so that we create images personal to you. We will discuss your colour scheme and relevant items of sentiment that you may like to include. All the props that I use are designed with newborn babies in mind to include the softest most beautiful materials and textures. Hats, wraps, and tiebacks including handmade accessories are available for you to choose, to allow me to create that personal perfect image for you.
I like my clients to view their images as they are intended. I will arrange a viewing and ordering session approximately 10-14 days after your shoot in the comfort of your own home.
At the viewing session, we will discuss ordering options. I prefer to make it unique and personal to you. There are many options available to you to purchase your prints including; Bespoke Photo Books and Albums, Canvas and Steel Prints, not forgetting the traditional Print and Framed options, keepsakes, and digital images.
